Our Vision for Education

Portrait of Mother Veronica, the Foundress
Mother Veronica, Foundress
Inspired by our Foundress Mother Veronica and urged on by Mother Marie des Anges, our first Superior General, we shall keep looking ahead with a clear vision for the future, striving for standards of excellence in our educational and social apostolate for the holistic development of our students, enabling them to face the challenges of tomorrow.
The vision of Carmel Girls High School

The vision draws its inspiration from the Foundress, Mother Veronica, and from the encouragement of Mother Marie des Anges, the first Superior General. It looks beyond the classroom to the whole person and to the world the students will enter.

  • A clear vision for the futureThe school keeps looking ahead, planning for what its students will need.
  • Standards of excellenceExcellence is sought in both the educational and the social apostolate.
  • Holistic developmentEducation is meant to nurture the mind, character, faith and personality together.
  • Ready for tomorrowStudents are prepared to face the challenges of tomorrow with confidence.

Our Academic Philosophy

Six commitments from the school's mission shape how Carmel understands education.

  • Academic Excellence and Lifelong Learning

The school's mission is to offer academic opportunities that encourage students to strive for excellence at national and international levels. Excellence here means more than marks. It means building the habits of study, curiosity and perseverance that keep a student learning long after she leaves the classroom.

  • Faith Formation and Moral Education

Carmel seeks to instil life-promoting values through moral education and faith formation, with special emphasis on nourishing and deepening each student's faith in God. Faith and values are treated as part of a complete education, guiding how students think, choose and treat others.

  • Leadership and Personal Development

The school aims to encourage leadership from an early stage. Through the school cabinet and relevant co-curricular opportunities, including NSS, NCC and Guides/Scouts where applicable, students can learn to take responsibility, serve others and grow in confidence.

  • National Integration and Social Harmony

Patriotism, national integration and communal harmony are part of the school's mission. National festivals and inter-faith prayer are the ways through which the school seeks to nurture love for the country and respect for people of every faith and community.

  • Environmental Awareness and Responsibility

Students are encouraged to care for the environment and to protect natural resources. This concern for the natural world is closely tied to the school's value of respect for life.

  • Holistic Growth Through Activities

Sports and other activities are recognised as important contributors to personality development. Alongside classroom learning, they help students build teamwork, resilience, discipline and self-confidence.

Our Core Values

Five values sit at the centre of a Carmel education. They are not slogans; they shape how students study, work and relate to others.

  • A Deep Faith in God

Spiritual growth, faith and a sense of purpose that give direction to a student's life.

  • Honesty

Truthfulness, integrity and accountability in words, work and choices.

  • Dignity of Labour

Respect for work, dedication and perseverance, and for every honest contribution.

  • Dignity of Study

Respect for education, intellectual effort and discipline, and the pursuit of knowledge.

  • Respect for Life

Compassion, human dignity, care for others and responsibility towards the world.

Education as a Shared Responsibility

A school's vision is fulfilled through people. At Carmel Girls High School, teachers, staff, parents, guardians and students each share in the work of turning the school's mission into everyday life.

  • Teachers and Staff

Staff members are encouraged to take an active part in fulfilling the school's vision and mission, guiding students through their teaching and through the example they set.

  • Parents and Guardians

The school emphasises cooperation between home and school so that students can grow into a positive force for society. Encouragement, open communication and support for good habits at home strengthen what students learn at school.

  • Students

Students take part through effort, honesty and respect for study and work, and by making full use of the opportunities they are given to learn, lead and serve.

  • Education for All

The school's mission includes making education affordable to economically weaker sections of society. Please contact the school for current information.
